A GREAT DESCRIPTION FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS TESTED 1 OF THESE MACHINES.
The Spindle Moulder features a good flat cast iron table top which is 640mm by 710mm and I was pleased to find that the table height is 900mm from the floor, higher than the majority of the smaller machines which tend to be around 830mm – Only the industrial units tend to be higher, hopefully no more back ache when undertaking large batches of mouldings!.
Another nice feature is the application of a couple of stickers on the machine front to remind you which way to turn the handles when adjusting the height or pitch of the spindle
On the side of the casing is an access door which is micro-switched for safety inside the machine is the belt tensioning and adjusting lever. Adjusting the machine between the varying speeds (1800/3000/6000 & 9000) is simple and once done the speed is confirmed by the diode on the front panel in operation. A reference chart has also been applied to the interior of the access door to remind you of the belt positioning.
The Spindle Moulder will take tooling up to 200mm diameter but I only used it with a standard 100mm Euro cutter and limiter block as well as a designated panel raising head. One real benefit of the machine is the ability to reverse the rotational direction of the spindle shaft. This enables double profile euro cutters to be used with the cutter lock mounted under the timber making the moulding a much safer operation.
On starting the machine with cutter block in situ I was impressed with the smooth start and progression to full speed indicated by the diode on the front panel. Obviously any cut will only be as good as the knives used but having tried various timbers, oak, cherry, Sapele to name a few and having varied the speeds all I can say is very impressive. Exceptionally quiet and completely vibration free. On stopping the motor brake stops the cutter block within a couple of seconds.

The optional sliding carriage runs on a 1200mm side rail with the same high quality sliding table as fitted to their circular saw. I previously tested this for PW Autumn 2005 and still believe it an excellent addition. It features a large sliding table, adjustable mitre/cross fence and makes this machine extremely versatile.
