There is a hand-stamped tag on this machine (check it out in one of the pictures) that may indicate one of the previous owners. It reads "BARON V MOYLAND PANTYGOITRE" - I would appreciate comments with any information available about this individual. He may have been Baron Gustav Adolf Steengracht von Moyland (1902-1969), who was Deputy Foreign Minister of Germany. Also, where is Pantygoitre? Is it in the UK?
This is a "YOU TUBE" video link of this machine running-Just press the picture below:
* set of gears (as shown in pictures, including stack on wood block and gears loaded on machine)
* 2 face plates 6 7/8" & 12 5/8"
* 1 Cushman 3-jaw chuck (3" dia.) only one set of jaws and no chuck wrench
* 1 tool rest with 2 inserts
* 2 dead centers (fits both headstock and tailstock)
* 2 original movable handles for carriage and cross-slide
* 1 1905 ORIGINAL COPY of J. Lukin's 6th Edition "Turning Lathes" (A portion of the book is a catalog for the Britannia company from Colchester England) It was this exact model they decided to put on the cover of the book as you can tell if you look closely at the scan below.
Condition: This machine is in very good to excellent condition for its age (around 100 years old). Everything works well including the longitudinal feed, threading, spindle, compound, tailstock, back-gear system, feed reversal mechanism and the treadle system. The crossfeed screw is very clean and the whole machine does not appear to have been used much at all. The only item that seems to be missing is the crank for the compound. Otherwise, there is a piece of wood missing from the spindle side of the tray (visible in first picture below), there is a crack in the gap bed near the spindle (see detail picture below), and there are up to 4 or 5 partially missing teeth in (I think) 3 of the change gears. The few slightly damaged gears still will function because they have only partially missing teeth. You can see most of them if you look closely at the pictures. All of the harder gears on the headstock including the back-gear system are in great shape and do not appear to have much wear and do not have any missing or partially missing teeth. Read the description scanned from the book below to understand the details of this machine. Don't hesitate to call me if you want to learn more about this machine.
