Especially if hose is under high pressure, is wet or slippery, or is used to carry toxic or valuable liquids, or the hose is required to protect a highly valuable item, you absolutely do not want the hose to ever slip - you must use a hose clamp with a retaining clip. If you don't need the clip, you can easily cut it off with dikes.
